Marion Margaret Daly

Matthews, North Carolina — Marion Margaret Daly, 93 of Matthews, NC died Saturday November 6, 2021.

Marion was born in New York City on July 31, 1928. Her parents were John and Susan Fallat. Marion was raised in Freehold New Jersey on the family farm. She graduated from Freehold High School in 1946. After graduation Marion continued to help on the farm until she took a position at Marlboro State Hospital. In 1955, she met James Daly on a blind date. James was in the US Army, a Korean war veteran and attended Fordham University. In July 1955 she married US Army Lt. James Joseph Daly III at Saint Mary’s Chapel in Fort Hancock New Jersey.

Marion’s fondest memories were salmon fishing with the family and watching moose in the backyard.

From there, Marion embarked on a career as a US Army wife and became a mother of two. For the next 29 years, she and her family traveled across the USA, before her husband retired from the US Army in 1978 and made their home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. During her Army years, she endured many years of separation from her husband when he was deployed overseas during the Vietnam War and with NATO in Europe leaving her to run the home with two children without him. Her favorite deployments were in Alaska at Fort Richardson in 1959 and Elmendorf Air Force Base in 1973. Marion’s fondest memories were salmon fishing with the family and watching moose in the backyard. Marion had been a member of several Army Officer Wives Clubs, and various Catholic societies and Catholic churches. She was extremely devoted to her Catholic Faith and especially the Blessed Mother. Marion moved to Matthews NC in 2006 and volunteered at the parish office at Saint John Neumann Catholic church for ten years.

Family was of the utmost importance to Marion. She leaves behind her son James Joseph Daly IV and wife Lisa Ann Daly of Beaufort South Carolina; her sister Joan Janet Fallat Kelder of Freehold New Jersey; grandchildren, Megan Christina Muldez of Appomattox Virginia; Sean Michael Daly of Charleston South Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, US Army Colonel James Joseph Daly III, and daughter, Erin Kathleen Daly. Marion will be buried with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to St. Peters Catholic Church, 70 Ladys Island Dr. Beaufort SC 29907 or Hospice of Beaufort.

A private Funeral Mass will be held.
